Comparing them to the Chevrolet Corvette, BMW Z4, and Toyota Supra is good. Porsche’s Cayman GT4 range sets a very high bar for sports cars.

After last year’s debut of a 414-hp flagship, the current year brings only modest modifications. Android users will now be able to connect their smartphones to Apple CarPlay, and the infotainment system will receive some improvements. 2024 Porsche Cayman applies the Cayman GT4 designation to two vehicles with distinct personalities but is fundamentally identical underneath: the Boxster roadster and the Cayman hardtop, which typically costs roughly $2,000 less.
The base and T models feature a 300-hp turbocharged flat-4 engine; the S variants have a more extensive version that produces 350 horsepower. Upgrade to the GTS for a fierce 394-horsepower 4.0-liter flat-6 engine that delivers 911-level performance and proper sounds. The Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder versions receive an additional 20 horsepower—because why not.
Interior
The spacious cockpit offers bolstered seats with leather upholstery as standard, but softer and more inventive upholstery options are available. However, sportier seats may be too small for wider riders, so sample before you buy.
The 2024 Porsche Cayman interior is very well-made, featuring excellent materials even on the base model. The more money you spend, the more leather, metal, carbon, or wood you’ll receive, so don’t be afraid to blow through your child’s inheritance. On the negative side, cargo room is limited. Caymans have a trunk that measures 9.7 cubic feet, but it is awkwardly structured. Boxsters share storage capacity between two modest front and back trunks totaling 10 cubic feet, but there are more practical options for cross-country travel.
Engine
There is no slowed-down version available here. The base and T variants are powered by a 2.0-liter turbo-4 engine rated at 300 engine and 280 pound-feet of torque, which propels these vehicles to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds. The larger 2.5-liter turbo-4 engine found in Cayman GT4 S models boosts output to 350 horsepower and 309 pound-feet of torque, providing noticeably quicker acceleration from any speed. However, the typical flat-6 thrum is absent.
We like the regular 6-speed manual transaxle, albeit the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic shifts far faster than a person. Straight-line speed is one thing, but the Cayman GT4 is equally adept at handling curving roads. These vehicles include some of the greatest steering ever installed on a vehicle, as well as excellent feedback. Every other automobile manufacturer should take notice. Even with the lowest wheel size, adjustable dampers are desirable. However, the lower ride heights on sporty variants might be an issue on steep driveways.

A basic 2024 Porsche Cayman starts at roughly $62,000 and is nicely equipped. We’d spend an additional $8,000 on the 718 T models, but we can’t begrudge anybody for going farther.
